Budapest Eighth District Postpones Evictions

The Eighth District will discontinue evictions from council-owned properties until May 1, deputy mayor Botond Sára said yesterday. In talks with activists of the NGO A Város Mindenkié, he said evictions will be put off to May 1 and a new moratorium could enter into force from September.

Output of Hungary’s construction sector fell by an annual 0.2% in November 2015, the Central Statistical Office said on Friday. The decrease followed a 7.8% fall in the preceding month. Output of the buildings segment rose by 10.2% in November but output of the civil engineering segment slumped by 8%. In absolute terms, construction sector output came to 212.28 billion forints (EUR 674.4m).

2015 brought many changes to Hungary’s social welfare system. From March 2015 needy families now receive far less social assistance than before. A number of programs were eliminated. In their place, local governments can offer so-called “settlement assistance”, but who receives how much is now entirely left up to the local governments.
