The Franz Liszt Music Academy of Budapest has received the Europa Nostra Award in the conservation of cultural heritage category. The two-year renovation of the building was completed in fall 2013. We carry an interview with András Batta, rector of the Academy between 2004 and 2013, who was the unflagging powerhouse of that ambitious project.

Bela Bartok’s Sonatas for Violin and Sonata for Violin on audio CD has won the prestigious international Gramophone Award. Zoltan Kocsis (laureate of the Hungarian Kossuth Prize twice) plays the piano and Barnabas Kelemen (Kossuth Prize laureate) plays the piano. Kelemen received the Gramophone Award in London in September.

After ten years of renovation, the Liszt Academy of Music will reopen on October 22, the Ministry of Public Administration and Justice announced on Tuesday. The reopening of the famous institution, founded in 1875, will also mark the 202nd birth anniversary of its founder, Franz Liszt. The academy nurtures the cultural heritage of Franz Liszt, Zoltán Kodály, Béla Bartok and Ernő Dohnányi.
