Hungary - Serbia Signs Pact On Migrants
Interior Ministers Sándor Pintér of Hungary and Nebojsa Stefanovic of Serbia signed a co-operation agreement on illegal migration in Belgrade on Thursday. Austrian interior minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner was also on hand.

Pintér said details of the agreement in principle will be worked out by the two countries’ police chiefs.

Hungarian, Austrian and German police forces have been conducting joint patrols of the Serbia-Hungary border since Wednesday.

They are also checking the documents of passengers at railway stations and on international trains.

The joint patrols are planned to go on for one month, after which authorities will decide whether they are still needed.

Stefanovic stressed that co-operation between Serbian, Hungarian, German and Austrian police forces, the addition of more border guards and the use of night-vision cameras have helped to reduce illegal migration.

He said the number of illegal entrants has drastically dropped, as only five were caught in the previous 24 hours, compared to hundreds on recent days.

Leitner said Austria will organise flights home for those whose requests for asylum are rejected.
