Govt Official: EU Membership Beneficial For Hungary
Hungary has benefited greatly from its 11 years of European Union membership, despite a number of debates during this period, said Nándor Csepreghy, the cabinet’s deputy state secretary. He said the relationship between the EU and Hungary has stood the test of time, and has even been consolidated by the crises. Speaking at a Europe Day event, the deputy state secretary noted that there have been some 63,000 development projects funded by the EU in Hungary.

Tamás Szűcs, head of the representation of the European Commission in Hungary, said the fates of Hungary and Europe are tied together, adding that 2004 was a historic turning point, as Europe became stronger, and Hungary found its rightful place.

Szűcs said Hungary was one of the biggest net beneficiaries of the EU, as it has received over 8,000 billion forints (EUR 26 billion) since 2004, and is likely to benefit from a similar level of funding over the next seven years.
