Budapest’s Most Dangerous Roads
Vezess.hu compiled the list of the 20 most dangerous roads in Budapest. Accident statistics from 2011 were compared with statistics from 2016 (the most current data), and the results are not looking good.

Here is the list of the 20 most dangerous roads in Budapest today with the No. of accidents listed in brackets. The more accidents happened on the road, the more dangerous it is considered to be.

1.    Váci Street (67)

2.    Pesti Street (48)

3.    Szentendrei Street (45)

4.    Thököly Road (41)

5.    Rákóczi Street (41)

6.    Hungária Boulevard (40)

7.    Budaörsi Street (34)

8.    Soroksári Street (33)

9.    Jászberényi Street (24)

10. Andrássy Avenue (23)

11. Szerencs Street (23)

12. Hűvösvölgyi Street (22)

13. Könyves Kálmán Boulevard (22)

14. Üllői Street (22)

15. Szerémi Street (20)

16. Kossuth Lajos Street, District 21 (20)

17. József Boulevard (20)

18. Teréz Boulevard (19)

19. Baross Street (19)

20. Fogarasi Street (19)

Interestingly, the first three roads are the same on both the 2011 and the 2016 lists.

Number of accidents increases

In 2011, the total number of serious accidents on the aforementioned roads was 499, while in 2016 this number increased to 567. This is a 14% increase.

One thing is crystal clear from the statistics; there were significantly more road accidents in 2016 than in 2011 in all of the roads on the list.

In 2011, 41 accidents happened on Váci Street, while in 2016, there were 67 accidents on the same road. The number of crashes increased by 63% within five years. It is no wonder that Váci Street was and still is the No. one on the list of Budapest’s most dangerous roads.

On Thököly Road, the number of accidents doubled between 2011 and 2016.

The shortest road on the list is Andrássy Avenue (2.4 km). Due to its characteristics, this road should not even be on the list of the first 50 most dangerous roads in the capital, and yet it is No. 10. Who causes the most accidents?

In 2011, 161 accidents were caused by cars, pedestrians caused 27 accidents, 11 were caused by scooters, 10 were caused by cyclists, 9 by trucks, 5 by motorbikes and only 2 by buses.

There is no data available from 2016 yet.
