Alongside new permanent exhibitions, the museum will open with a temporary exhibition marking the approaching 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, Péter Fekete told reporters.

The reconstructed Romanesque Hall will be open to the public for the first time since it was damaged in WWII.

László Baán, the museum’s director, said that during the works, about 40% of the building was upgraded. New exhibition halls have been created and the heating and air conditioning systems have been renewed, he said.
 

Permanent exhibitions

The permanent exhibitions are arranged according to a new concept: besides the treasures of Egyptian and Classical Antiquity, the history of European and Hungarian art until the end of the 18th century is displayed here due to the reunification of the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hungarian National Gallery.

From 31 October, the following exhibitions can be visited in the recently renovated Romanesque wing:

• Basement level – Egyptian Art, Classical Antiquities

• Ground floor – Renaissance Hall, Romanesque Hall

• 1st floor – European Art 1200–1600

• 2nd floor – European Sculpture 1350–1800

• 3rd floor – Art in Historical Hungary 1600–1800 (display of the baroque collection from the Hungarian National Gallery in a new exhibition area)

On the basement level fully renewed cloakroom and restaurant are waiting our visitors.

Temporary exhibition

Leonardo and the Budapest Horse and Rider
31 October 2018 – 6 January 2019

The reopening of the museum is accompanied by a special temporary cabinet exhibition: Leonardo da Vinci’s Horse and Rider will be displayed together with other masterpieces by the Renaissance master and his contemporaries in the renovated and now reopened Michelangelo Hall on the ground floor.

Ticket: HUF 1,800 (including a free visit to the permanent exhibitions) 
Group discount (10% from 15 persons): HUF 1,600 per person

Guided tours

Providing guided tours will start on 20 November 2018, inquiries will be accepted from 31 October. Please contact the museum at education@mfab.hu. Between 31 October and 20 November the exhibitions can be visited only without tours for individaul visitros and groups as well.
