Museum To Investigate Poet Petőfi’s Death
The Petőfi Literary Museum and the Defence Ministry Military History Institute signed a co-operation agreement on Tuesday on exploring the battlefield near Sighisoara in Romania where the poet Sándor Petőfi is believed to have died at age 26.

Petőfi presumably died in battle against Russian forces on July 31, 1849, but his body was never found.

Szilárd Demeter, head of the Petőfi museum, said the question has not yet been explored by means of modern archaeological methods.

Results of the research will be presented by the two museums in publications and in exhibitions.
