Budapest Chain Bridge Closed This Saturday
The Chain Bridge will be closed to motor vehicle traffic on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., due to a preliminary inspection required for the renovation of the bridge.

Pedestrian traffic will not be restricted.

The cost of renovating the bridge and the Castle Tunnel was estimated at Ft 24 billion. However, bids received in September for the renovation of the Chain Bridge and Széchenyi István tér alone came to Ft 24 billion, excluding work on the tunnel.

Newly elected mayor Gergely Karácsony has said that the renovation will go ahead. He has also suggested that the Chain Bridge might be a pedestrian-only bridge.
