Balaton Sound Festival, Now 3 – 7 July
This mainly electronic music festival, held annually by a picturesque part of Lake Balaton, is one of the largest open-air events in Europe.

Sound, as the cool cats call it, features a diverse musical offering set across 9 stages, plus there are 'immersive theatrical performances' and 'carnivals'.

The line-up this year includes international stars such as Armin van Buuren, Marshmello, Paul Kalkbrenner, and DJ Snake, Tiesto, The Chainsmokers, Rudimental,  Nicky Romero, and so many more.

Each year an increasing number of festival-goers take the trip to enjoy daytime gigs by the water, savouring the flavours of summer festival food, refreshing at the many open-air bars, before dancing the night away to pumping beats!

Festival season is hotting up in Hungary, so here's a guide to what's worth visiting for a one-off concert or a week long party in the open air. The biggie is always Sziget, this year with Billie Eilish and Sleaford Mods headlining, but it’s worth considering the more niche, boutique bashes like V4, SZIN, Katlan, OZORA, and the cultish Kolorádó in the Buda hills.
