Special Aircraft Engine on Show at Budapest Transport Museum's New Exhibition
- 14 May 2026 1:16 PM
The museum's new temporary exhibition opens in Budapest's Kőbánya district at the Northern Train Maintenance Depot site, focusing on safe and cooperative transportation.
The centrepiece will be this large modern gas turbine engine, which flew on a DHL Boeing 757 just a year ago before retirement. Aeroplex donated it to the museum with DHL's approval.
The RB211 represents a milestone in jet aviation and British engineering. Originally developed for the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar, later versions powered Boeing 747, 757 and 767 long-haul passenger aircraft. This engine stayed active until July 2025.
A second unit remains in Budapest at Aeroplex's training centre for technician programmes.
Aeroplex, a subsidiary of 4iG Space and Defense Technologies' Aero portfolio, handles Airbus and Boeing maintenance, repair and overhaul at its Budapest base, including hangar work, line care and equipment repairs.
