Budapest Black Food Festival, 29 August
The Black Food Festival, a project started by Hungarian food enthusiasts, is on an astonishing international tour and is now coming back to Budapest.

The Black Food Festival is about unusual, dark and black food and drinks - and so much more: the culture of the colour black, creativity, and openness. Black design and fashion items, dark music, an alternative atmosphere... Dark souls, you beautiful goth people - it’s your turn now.

The international tour kicked off in Berlin. The next stops were Tel Aviv and Helsinki. With a bold move, the festival was then taken to New York – where it took Brooklyn by storm.

It seems the concept is wildly popular in all kinds of cultures, as the next venues were Istanbul and London. Then, astoundingly, the festival made its way to Nairobi in Kenya - one of the most open and rapidly developing countries in Africa.

The concept can be adapted; the first franchise event was in Tallinn – with 4,000 guests, no less.

So the good news is that the festival is coming back to Budapest on a Saturday 29 August.

Detailed program available here

Guests can taste black ice cream, black cakes, savoury dishes, vegan, sugar-free, lactose-free and gluten-free dishes, and various kinds of street food.

As it is also international French Macaron Day, expect a wide assortment of dark macarons. Get ready for some major surprises, too: black cocktails with real locusts, and special, rarely seen dark fruits and vegetables.

A panel of expert judges will choose the most delicious food and drink, and hand out the Black Food of the Year and the Black Drink of the Year Awards.
