Vehicle Restrictions Enforced On Budapest’s Chain Bridge
Budapest Travel Authority, BKK, has announced that any vehicles weighing above 5 tonnes will now be banned from crossing the Széchenyi Chain Bridge.

Budapest is a city of many bridges which connect the Buda and Pest sides of the city. The oldest and most famous of them all is the iconic Széchenyi Chain Bridge. Vehicles have passed along its surface since it’s completion in 1849.

However, in recent times it has been at the centre of serious debate as lawmakers had been deliberating on the bridge’s condition, which was last renovated between 1986 – 1989.

The outcome of a recent inspection concluded that weight restrictions over this historic bridge need to be more rigorously enforced.

Following on from this, BKK has announced a vehicle weight limit of 5 Tonnes. Any vehicles exceeding this will now be banned from using it to cross. This excludes public transport vehicles operated by BKK.

Gabriella and Constantinos, the two co-founders of Like Locals, had a passion for exploring new cities, but they had a strong dislike for the traditional guided tours. They put together a game for their friends to guide them in their next location, leading them to hidden places around the city and asking them quirky trivia questions. The game was on. And Like Locals was born.
