Only One-Third Of Budapest Pubs Ask For Late Opening Hours
Two-thirds of the pubs and bars in Budapest’s Seventh District have not requested a permit to stay open beyond midnight by Wednesday night’s deadline, HVG reports.

Altogether 138 establishments requested exemptions, 72 of which have received a permit, while the others are in the process of addressing deficiencies, the district said.

A new decree states that entertainment facilities may not stay open between midnight and 6 a.m., but the bars and pubs in the so-called Party Zone may request an exemption if they fulfil the new requirements.

They were given a two-month grace period to meet new requirements, which ended at midnight Wednesday.

When HVG asked the bars and pubs, many of them said they were still waiting for a reply from the local government.
