Spar Abused Food Suppliers Says Hungarian Food Safety Authority
Spar Magyarország is guilty of unfair behaviour towards its food suppliers, causing them Ft 75 billion in damage, the food safety authority Nébih found as it fined the subsidiary of the Dutch retail chain Ft 80 million on Tuesday.

The Nébih examined Spar’s relations with ten food product suppliers and found that five suffered as a result of the malpractice.

Spar abused its position by requiring suppliers to pay a “fixed bonus” without defining any related turnover target that could be measured.

According to the law, such a bonus can be paid only if defined turnover targets are met.

Spar has not appealed against the Nébih decision.
