Speaking at the inauguration of a national memorial site comprising the Káptalandomb and the remains of the castle in the city centre, Szijjártó said the world had recently faced extreme challenges connected to financial and health-care crises, migration and the war in Ukraine.
In addition, Hungary has seen “attacks against our sovereignty, traditions and Christian culture”, Szijjártó said.
“The decade-long barrage of our self-definition and plans for our future” came because the country’s “civic, patriotic, Christian government consistently went against the international liberal mainstream”, he said.
“Hungary’s Christian Democratic system guarantees its citizens’ dignity, freedom and security, protects equality between men and women, the traditional family model, has declared zero tolerance against anti-Semitism, protects and cherishes Christian culture and so ensures the survival and prosperity of the nation,” he added.
The government has responded to the attacks by repeatedly bolstering Christian traditions, he said.
