'Company Ildiko Mandy: Bosons', National Dance Theatre Budapest, 17 September
In the dance performance entitled Bosons, Ildikó Mándy’s Dance Company fills the space with pulsating energy that is vibratingly light and at other times it is heavy with gravity, the motion scheme is associated with film-like solutions, with which she almost absorbs us into the intangible world of particle physics representing the starting point of the work.

The back-projection is an organic part of the performance, a base and a kind of origin supporting the dancers’ movement, which turns the piece into a universal artwork.

Director-choreographer Ildikó Mándy makes an attempt to experience the universe and to make people acquainted with it. Of course, in an infinitely subjective manner and mainly by making questions as there are no universal answers. There cannot be any.

What are we? Where dowe come from? Where are we going and which way are we heading?

Who am I? The big question that is on the mind of all of us. Sooner or later all people think about this at some stage of their life. We all approach this problem in different ways.

We can tackle this from a spiritual viewpoint, by paying inward attention or by opening outwards, by gaining experience and by learning the world. And we can also approach it from a scientific aspect.

The most general motivation for numerous research works done on Earth is curiosity and the effort to understand ourselves and our world.

The Bosons performance starts out from the historical discovery that proved the existence of the Higgs-boson. For most of us, as laymen, it is almost inconceivable what this means, although in physical terms nothing would have a weight without the Higgs-boson, and there would not be any physical objects in the Universe either.

The story of the Higgs-boson teaches us that if we cannot show something through physical methods, it does not necessarily mean that it does not exist. There may be something in the background even if we do not (yet) have any proof of its existence.

The philosophy of existence cannot be danced. However, physical reality, the movements and the interactions of bodies and particles can be presented in the language of dance. These movements, connections and group waves are similarly typical of our existence and our relations in an abstract sense.

The movement and the interaction of the five dancers, the design of their motions, expressed in the line of eventual, still likely meeting points, tell about the circulation of the universe, about basic repulsion and attraction and about interactions.

This is how various opportunities of human connections can be read out from the attachments expressed in dance.
