Budapest city council yesterday approved a proposal submitted by deputy mayor Kata Tüttő whereby there will be no decorative lighting at Christmas this year on areas managed by the city.
The city expects to save Ft 28.4 million with this step.
However, districts can decide to install Christmas lights in their own purview.
The city council earlier decided that decorative lighting will be reduced by two hours and that there will be no Christmas market on downtown Vörösmarty tér.
