Budapest Airport Expects Return to Pre-Pandemic Turnover in 2024
Budapest Airport (BA) expects annual passenger traffic to return to pre-crisis levels of 16.2 million in 2024, the airport operator informed Hungarian Media.

A report showed that BA has lagged behind in regaining traffic compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Traffic rose by 121% to 12.2 million in 2022, reaching 75% of the record 2019 level.

More than 94,000 planes landed in Budapest last year, making the facility the 40th busiest airport in Europe.

According to a compilation by Portfolio, the largest airports in the continent saw a 16.6% drop in landings, a decline four percentage points higher than in Budapest.

BA blamed the war in Ukraine, the economic slowdown, the weaker forint, the energy crisis, the spillover effects of summer disruptions and the windfall tax on air travel for the slower return of passenger traffic.

Airlines flew to 140 destinations from Budapest last year, practically level with the number in 2019, BA said earlier this month.
