Budapest Transport Company Faces Growing Shortage of Bus Drivers
The Budapest transport company BKV told journalists on Wednesday that it is facing a shortage of bus drivers which is constantly increasing from 70-80 at present.

In addition, the corps of 2,280 bus drivers is aging.

There are 2,000 bus drivers and 280 trolley drivers at BKV, and part-time workers are taking the place of about 100 full-time drivers.

The BKV is fighting the situation by offering relatively good salaries, recruitment, training, and the deployment of new vehicles, apparently in vain.

BKV drivers may receive double the average net monthly salary of Ft 500,000 if they go abroad, but even drivers of worker transport buses are paid Ft 600,000, and there is a lot of competition for drivers among the major domestic bus market service providers as well, said BKV deputy CEO László Szedlmajer.
