The Rocket and the Pistol both made their debut in Hungary at the Magyar Snooker Gala, following in the footsteps of the likes of Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, Mark Williams, Steve Davis and Jimmy White.
The exhibition sponsored by OMV was played over three sessions in an electric atmosphere at the Gerevich Aladar National Sports Hall in the capital, with constant applause and many cheers for the two British stars - and also for Hungarian talent given the chance to join in the action.
This event series started in March 2017, created by three local snooker fans: Gábor Wéber, Balázs Csurgó and Gábor Buzás. The organisers told XpatLoop.com that, “From the very beginning, our intention was to promote the sport and to present Hungarian snooker talent”.
In the spotlight was the 16-year-old Bulcsú Révész, shining like a star in the making he didn’t win a match against the world’s best but in his modest manner he showed off his outstanding talent.
Speaking to the Hungarian sports website Nemzeti Sport, Englishman O’Sullivan said he, "Felt great in Hungary, that the crowd was fantastic and so was the arena and organisation".
The organisers again hosted an amazing event, after a gap due to Covid this year they put on perhaps the best showcase of snooker Hungary has even seen.
So now fans are wondering which players will visit Budapest next time at this annual snooker feast, with many hoping Ronnie will come back soon for more 'sznúker' here.
Judd Trump is also very welcome back given his amazing shoot-out performance at this event in Budapest 4 years ago - see video below.
