The Constitutional Court has rejected a complaint from airline Ryanair against the introduction of the extra profit tax introduced in the summer of 2022, declaring that it does not have the authority to rule on the matter.
Later in the year, the flat tax rate was converted to an environmental tax, based on emission levels.
Ryanair received Ft 300 million in consumer protection fines last summer for passing the extra tax on to consumers.
Shortly after taking power in 2010, the Fidesz government narrowed the authority of the Constitutional Court to prevent it from ruling on laws affecting the state budget so long as the national debt exceeds half of the GDP.
