Exotic Menagerie Owner Prosecuted for Keeping 54 Birds Illegally in Hungary
A 54-year-old man illegally kept 100 exotic birds on his farm in Gyula, as he did not have a license to keep half of them, Telex reports.

The hobby bird collector kept 54 birds illegally, including five cockatoos, 32 parrots, 12 adult nandu and five nandu chicks.

The collection included very valuable and rare birds, such as macaws worth as much as Ft 600,000-700,000, and even a hybrid bird created by crossing a yellow-winged macaw and a green-winged macaw.

The estimated total value of the 100 birds is Ft 20 million.

The collector mostly acquired the creatures from Slovakia, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

Many of the birds confiscated by police were transported to the rescue centre of the Szeged Wildlife Park.
