29% Fewer Couples Tied the Knot in Hungary According to Latest Data, Deaths Dropped by 15%
The number of births fell by 7% in July compared with the same month in the previous year, while deaths dropped by 15%, according to preliminary data published by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Meanwhile, the number of marriages decreased by 29% in the same period. Fully 7,744 children were born in July, while there were 9,240 deaths.

Altogether, 5,682 couples got married. The natural population loss was 1,496 people compared with 2,523 in July 2022.

Fully 49,659 children were born between January 2023 and July 2023, 1.4% fewer than in the same period of last year.

Altogether 74,066 people died between January 2023 and July 2023, 7.9% fewer than in the same period of last year.

In the same period, 26,579 couples tied the knot, 29% fewer than in the same period of last year.

There were 8.9 live births and 13.3 deaths per thousand inhabitants, the former level with the January-July 2022 period, while the death rate was 0.1 of a percentage point lower.
