Summerfest International Folklore Festival Starts in Hungary on Saturday
Summerfest, an international folklore festival held in Százhalombatta, south of Budapest, will get under way on Saturday.

The highlights of the week-long programme’s 200 events will include shows by seven folk groups as well as seven theatrical performances from countries including Brazil, North Macedonia, Croatia, India, Poland, Serbia, and Senegal.

Over the course of the festival’s 30 years, nearly 50,000 participants from 112 countries have participated in events held in Százhalombatta, Tököl, Ráckeve, Szigetszentmiklós, and Dunavarsány, the organisers said.

Hungarian performers this year include the Turay Ida Theatre, the Fitos Dezső Company, the 100-strong Gypsy Band, the Duna Ensemble, the Forrás Folk Dance Company, András Berecz, as well as the FlamenCorazónArte Dance Theatre. The festival will end in a spectacular gala on Aug. 20, Hungary’s national holiday.
