Two Hungarian Films to Debut at Venice Film Festival

Among new works by Michael Mann, Roman Polanski and Sofia Coppola, the 80th Venice International Film Festival is showcasing two Hungarian films.

Gábor Reisz (Bad Poems) presents his third feature, Magyarázat mindenre (‘Explanation for Everything’), another exploration into Hungarian identity, which he co-wrote and co-edited.

The debut work by Dorka Vermes, Árni, tells the story of a jack-of-all-trades in a travelling circus, and was developed with the support of the Venice Biennale through the Biennale College Cinema programme.

The Venice Film Festival has been a launchpad for films that later became Oscar contenders. In recent years, eight out of 11 directors who won Oscars had their films debut in Venice, including Damien Chazelle's La La Land.

The festival runs until this Saturday, 9 September.
