'Hey, June', Celebration Of Local Pop, Palace of Arts Budapest, 6 - 9 June
The Hey, June! programme series is as old as Müpa Budapest itself. It was first held in 2005, and has taken place at the end of the academic year ever since, ushering in the holidays and the festival season as an in-house mini-festival that opens the door to every aspect of this new beginning, welcoming the summer and giving us good reason to celebrate.

This year is no different: when it comes to genres and performers during the Müpa Budapest Hey, June! festival, there is something for everyone. From 6 to 9 June, we will enjoy everything from new-wave hip-hop to party freak-punk, catchy guitar pop and a project that reworks the music of the superstar band, The Doors.

The season-closing, festival-season opening Hey, June! will see four concerts herald the freest season of the year, with one unique show every evening from 6 to 9 June. On Tuesday the sixth, you can hear a truly special project, When The Music’s Over – Jim Morrison 80. As the name suggests, the concert will pay tribute to the work of Morrison – who would celebrate his 80th birthday this year – and his band The Doors, featuring contemporary electronic sounds and a project from an unexpected partnership between Soma Nóvé, iamyank and Tibor Vangel.

On Wednesday the seventh, we will journey to all corners of the Betyar universe with Bohemian Betyars, famed in distant lands for their energetic, electrifying concerts. For this show, they will be returning to their musical roots – to Hungarian and Gypsy folk and Balkan world music. The concept will feature reconceived instrumentation and the group Parno Graszt taking to the stage as special guests.

On Thursday the eighth, hip-hop takes centre stage in the form of Co Lee, one of the leading figures on the Budapest underground scene in recent years, as he presents his first Hungarian-language album and instrumental versions of his English-language songs, performed in front of an audience for the first time.

On Friday the ninth, the final day, 4S Street, who hail from Gheorgheni and were nominated for the Fonogram 2022 Discovery of the Year award, will show us a new side of themselves as they perform specially arranged versions of their most popular songs accompanied by wind and string musicians.

Eliades Ochoa's performance at Müpa Budapest is sure to be one of the most exciting concerts of 2024. Although the Cuban singer/guitarist has been a famous musician in his native country since the 1970s, it was only at the turn of the millennium that the wider world first encountered his name, thanks to the Wim Wenders documentary on the Buena Vista Social Club.

So what is Jazz? Something that is difficult to define? Of course, because of its amazing ability to change styles! If you want it to be, it can be romantic-psychedelic magic, and at other times it’s an ambient jazz-pop journey, or perhaps a touch of hip-hop-afrobeat levitation. At the 17th, Jazz Showcase, every note points to the future.
