Hungarian Animation “27” Makes Oscar Shortlist

This recognition is one of the many international successes of “27,” including winning the prestigious Palme d’Or at Cannes, an award at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, a nomination for the European Film Award, and selection for the upcoming Sundance Film Festival.
“27” tells a poignant story of a young adult who finds escape from their constrained life through physicality, specifically through masturbation and dancing. The film’s narrative is brought to life through the voices of actors such as Stork Natasa, Fekete Ádám, and Szabó Simon.
Produced by the French company Miyu and the Hungarian company Boddah, the film’s producers include Emmanuel-Alain Raynal, Pierre Baussaron, Osváth Gábor, and Lukács Péter Benjámin. Notably, “27” was produced without direct state funding from Hungary.
In contrast, the Hungarian submission for the Best International Feature Film category, Gauder Áron‘s “Kojot négy lelke,” an animated feature film based on an Indian creation story, did not make it to the shortlist.
However, the shortlist did include several other international films recognized at various film festivals, including British, Finnish, French, and Japanese entries.
The final Oscar nominees will be announced on January 23, with the 96th Oscar ceremony set for March 10, when it will be revealed if “27” secures a place among the top five in its category.
