Probe into Suspected Foreign Election Financing Attempt in Hungary Launched by Authorities
Hungary’s Sovereignty Protection Office is launching an investigation into a suspected attempt at foreign election financing.

The office said it decided to launch its investigation based on information published in Thursday’s edition of the daily Magyar Nemzet.

The Sovereignty Protection Office said it had reason to suspect that “foreign and Hungarian interests” that had attempted to influence the 2022 general elections and “played an active role” in several European Union campaigns were “once again targeting the Hungarian elections”.

It said several criminal proceedings were under way against the members of the network of companies suspected of being involved in the case.
