Popularity of Budapest Olympic Bid Revealed
A recent Publicus Institute survey for Népszava reveals that many who oppose a Hungarian Olympic bid do so because they believe it would primarily benefit pro-government entrepreneurs.

Currently, 41% of respondents support a potential bid to host the summer Olympic games, while 55% are against it.

This marks a slight increase in support from early 2021, when 39% were in favour and 59% opposed.

Support is notably high among Fidesz voters, with 78% in favour, although 45% of them would prefer the funds be allocated elsewhere.

In contrast, 81% of Tisza Party supporters, 80% of undecideds, and 59% of Budapest residents reject the idea.

The main reasons for rejection include the belief that the games would be too expensive (71%), that the country is too poor to host the Olympics (59%), and that the benefits would mostly favour Fidesz-affiliated entrepreneurs (61%).
