Cancellation of Popular Balaton Sound Festival Now Confirmed - But Why?
"We announce with a sad heart that Balaton Sound will be forced to rest in 2025, so it will definitely not be staged next year," the organisers wrote on Facebook on Monday.

This news was not unexpected, as the mayor of Zamárdi, Gyula Csákovics, told a local newspaper earlier that such an announcement would be made soon about the festival in the town at Lake Balaton, HVG adds.

He also said that the Strand Festival, also staged in Zamárdi, is more accepted, with fewer problems.

Sonline.hu reported:

This long running summer festival had 100's of thousands of visitors in 2024.

Rumours about the festival’s future started circulating on the last day of the four-day event this year, with some already suggesting then that this might be the last Balaton Sound in Zamárdi, Sonline reported.

Some vendors at the festival told attendees that 2024 would be the final year for this annual festival.

In a now-deleted Instagram post, influencer Pumped Gabo, who rose to fame through this festival, tearfully said there would be no more Sound at the “Hungarian Sea”.

Established in 2007, the festival quickly gained a reputation for its picturesque lakeside location on the shores of Lake Balaton and an impressive lineup of international DJs and top contemporary artists. It grew to be one of Europe’s largest and most popular electronic music festivals.

From The Sound Team

"Dear Friends,

Months have passed since this year’s Balaton Sound, and you haven’t heard from us. We have remained silent because we were facing a difficult decision that required careful consideration.

Unfortunately, the consequences of the economic situation that have lingered since the pandemic have also affected Balaton Sound. Over the past three years, we’ve done everything we could to keep the festival going despite the challenges. But in the end, we had to decide that we won’t be able to continue Balaton Sound in 2025 at the quality level you’re used to.

We need to rethink the future, and for that, we need time. It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Balaton Sound will be taking a break in 2025, meaning the festival will not be held next year.

It’s been a long journey since the beginning, filled with countless amazing experiences and joyful moments. We are incredibly grateful that you have been with us all this time.

With friendship,

The Sound Team"
