Top Ice Cream Spots at Balaton
- 7 Aug 2025 12:19 PM
Leading the list is the playfully named Kő fagyi? in Mindszentkálla, a small village not far from the lake. This spot has become a favourite among locals and visitors alike for its inventive flavours and relaxed vibe.
Close behind is Bagaméri in Balatonfüred, which continues to enjoy widespread acclaim. It recently received the “Ice Cream Shop of the Year” award from the Hungarian Confectioners’ Guild — a national-level recognition for excellence.
On the northern shore, several other well-regarded names made the top ten. Promenád Kávéház in Balatongyörök drew attention this year for introducing a rather unexpected offering: the Vatican’s official ice cream, now available by the lakeside.
In Gyenesdiás, Bringatanya Fagyizó earned praise not just for flavour, but also for its pedigree — pastry chef Renáta Somogyi represented Hungary at the 2023 Gelato European Championship, where she brought home a bronze medal.
Another top contender, Amaretto in Balatonalmádi, stood out for its inclusive offerings. In addition to classic favourites, it serves up a variety of options for those with special dietary requirements, making it a go-to for many with allergies or food sensitivities.
Among the notable newer entries on the list is Füge Fagyiudvar és Kávézó in Veszprém, just north of the lake. With an impressive 4.8-star average from over 450 reviews, it recently won the title of “Ice Cream of Balaton”, securing its place among the region’s most celebrated spots.
According to Tamás Fekete, president of the Balaton Tourism Association, online reviews play a growing role in shaping local tourism. “Reviews not only build consumer trust but directly influence digital visibility,” he explained. “Fresh, positive feedback helps improve search rankings, making businesses easier to find.”
The association is encouraging both tourists and locals to support their favourite spots — whether an ice cream parlour, hotel, or bike rental — by sharing their experiences online. A quick review, they say, can make a real difference in helping small businesses thrive around the lake.
