Budapest Design Week: 175 Programs on Between 8 - 19 October
With the motto Fluid Boundaries, reflecting on the blurring boundaries of the design industry, the 2025 Budapest Design Week awaits visitors with more than 175 colorful events, the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (MDDÜ) just announced to MTI.

As stated in their press statement, Budapest Design Week has been the most important event of the Hungarian creative industry for 22 years, where the values, innovations and creators of design are put in the spotlight every autumn.

The aim of the series of events is to ensure that everyone, regardless of age or gender, can find an interesting program throughout the country, even for professionals, through which they can learn about the world of design and fine and applied arts.

According to the announcement, at the event, the general public can discover how the objects, interiors and spaces that shape everyday life are created through exciting experiences and mostly free community programs.

Around 130 events will take place in the capital and 50 in the countryside too.

There will be exhibitions, guided tours, design tours, open studios, workshops, roundtable discussions, professional presentations and community events. Showrooms and galleries will be offering discounted shopping opportunities.

In addition, family craft workshops, gastronomic programs and book launches await those interested.

The national program offering includes program series such as DesignPécs, which is being held for the 11th time, and Sopron Design Week, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Debrecen will join them - for the first time this year - with colorful events that deepen the understanding of the creative industry.

In addition, six other large cities, Győr, Kecskemét, Szentendre, Balatonfüred, Tata and Veszprém, will also enrich the program series with their own events, all of which contribute to making the values of Hungarian design visible throughout the country.

The theme of this year's program series, Fluid Boundaries, draws attention to the blurring of design industry boundaries, the interoperability between materials, technologies, disciplines and designer-producer roles.

After all, design today is more than object creation: it is a complex way of thinking that creates new connections between materials, technologies and cultures. Also, it simultaneously focuses on problem solving, innovation and experience creation, the announcement pointed out.

Organisers highlighted that the Budapest Design Week programs offer experiences where different areas of art and design are freely connected: hybrid installations, interactive presentations and inspiring encounters await visitors, while designers are present not only as exhibitors but also as active contributors.

"The most important mission of Budapest Design Week is to make outstanding Hungarian designers, brands and creations visible and to provide them with worthy professional recognition throughout the country.

These 12 days are about shared thinking, professional dialogue and how closely design is connected to our everyday lives. I trust that the programs will bring the values of design closer to the general public and contribute to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the field.

BDW has now become a platform where actors can present their innovations, exchange experiences and develop new collaborations, and there is even an opportunity for those interested to make discounted purchases
," Zsófia Jakab was quoted as saying.

The CEO of the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency, the ministerial commissioner responsible for the development and sectoral coordination of the creative industry, added that he is convinced that if young people discover the diversity and values of the design industries and the fine and applied arts, a national knowledge base can be created that not only strengthens talents but also supports the economy of the future.

"After all, the creative industry in Hungary not only creates aesthetic value, but also represents an economic and social force," he emphasised.

According to the press announcement, among the highlights of Budapest Design Week is the 6th year of the central exhibition of the design week, 360 Design Budapest, which presents contemporary works dreamed up by almost 400 domestic and regional designers.

While Art Market Budapest opens its doors for the 15th time to host the largest international contemporary art fair in Central and Eastern Europe, the 21-year-old Borderless Design exhibition offers an international perspective on design masterpieces from 15 countries.

The EDIDA awards ceremony highlights the best domestic works for the fourth time, and MaxCity is connected to its long-standing partner events.

Diploma exhibitions of educational institutions play a prominent role in the offer: the institutions of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, the Budapest Metropolitan University, the University of Sopron and the Budapest Complex Vocational Training Center also present the works of their graduate students.

This year, a special printed publication will help audiences navigate the events, not only summarizing the entire program, but also offering a creative experience in itself.

Detailed descriptions and interactive maps on the official website will support visitors in easily putting together their own program plan.

Apparently it will also be easy to find the events of the design week while walking around the city: BDW flags will draw attention to the programs on the facades of the venues.

According to press information, most of the events are free to attend, but some require advance registration or a ticket.

The newly created Local+ section, which focuses on local initiatives, helps to easily identify rural locations.
