Hungary to Discuss Reviving Nuclear Agreement with Iran, Says FM & More
- 24 Sep 2025 6:13 AM
According to a ministry statement, Szijjarto is also scheduled to have bilateral talks with Western European counterparts on the same issue.
"Hungary has a clear stance on the matter. We don't want the number of countries with nuclear weapons to grow. We think the International Atomic Energy Agency should supervise Iran's so-called nuclear programme, according to the previous agreement," he said.
"We are advocating for restoring the situation before the acts of war, and give the IAEA full access to informations on the Iranian nuclear programme so it can exercise full control. We continue to stand for diplomatic solutions... That would greatly contribute to world security," Szijjarto said.
Meanwhile, Szijjarto said his meeting with his Argentinian counterpart "will be interesting because the free trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur states has been dragging on for long now." The agreement has been drafted but several countries, including Hungary and France, have criticised it, he said.
Szijjarto said Hungary wanted the agreement to be signed only if it provided guarantees protecting Hungarian farmers, agriculture and the food industry, he said.
Further, Szijjarto will also meet his Serbian counterpart. He said the meeting was especially important in view of "attempts in Europe to eliminate patriotic leaders by political, legal and even physical means -- and it's happening especially harshly" in Serbia, he added.
"The leader of the Czech patriotic party, a favourite to win the elections, was beaten at a rally. Slovakia's patriotic prime minister was nearly killed. In Hungary, the Brussels bureaucracy is doing everything in its power to replace us with a puppet government. Austria's patriotic party, after winning the election, was denied the opportunity to take up governance, and there are clearly foreign-directed violent demonstrations in Serbia to remove the patriotic president who enjoys the trust of the people," he said.
"It does not paint a pretty picture of European democracy that the extreme liberal mainstream is trying to eliminate patriotic politicians enjoying the people's trust."
Szijjarto is also scheduled to meet the foreign ministers of Guinea Bissau, Sudan and the Vatican.
FM Szijjarto also said Gov't to continue protecting Hungary from migration 'in the face of Brussels'
Hungary's government will continue to go against the pro-migration policy of the European Union and protect Hungary from illegal migration, Peter Szijjarto, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said in New York.
According to a ministry statement, Szijjarto attended a meeting on combatting terrorism held within the framework of the United Nations General Assembly. Szijjarto said after the meeting that the world was riddled with security challenges including wars, armed conflicts and "extremely grave terror threat".
"There were 3,495 acts of terrorism committed last year alone. People are living in extreme threat in certain points of Africa, the Middle East and the Far East," he added.
Those events amount to challenges for Europe too, he said, adding that terrorism was in direct connection with illegal migration. In a vicious circle, terrorism prompted many people to leave their countries, allowing terrorists "to hide among migrants and move across continents practically unchallenged, to spread extreme ideologies and commit terrorist attacks," he said.
Hungary had managed to ward off that threat by "taking decisive action and rejecting to allow migrants into the country", he said. The fence on the Hungary-Serbia border and border protection had stopped one million migrants from entering the country so far, Szijjarto insisted.
He said the difference between the security situation of Hungary and Western Europe was palpable.
"There are no illegal migrants in Hungary, and we have to pay a daily fine of one million euros to Brussels for that, which is outrageous -- but I'd say it's the best investment into our security," he said. "I think it is better to maintain the [border] fence and strict border controls and go against Brussels to protect Hungary from illegal migrants."
Szijjarto said Western Europe was plagued by "parallel societies, terror threat, no-go zones, and in many places, a loud minority ruins the lives of communities that have been there for centuries. We don't want that to happen in Hungary. We will continue to oppose Brussels, protect Hungary from illegal migration and maintain that illegal migrants are not allowed to enter Hungary," he said.
FM Szijjártó Claims EP Siding with 'Anti-Fascist Terrorist'
The European Parliament has once again revealed itself by refusing to suspend the immunity of "antifa terrorist" Ilaria Salis, as well as opposition Tisza Party leader Peter Magyar who has also been implicated in criminal activity, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said.
The EP had helped those people avoid accountability, Szijjarto said according to a ministry statement.
Szijjarto said that last week he had approached Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, with a proposal to follow the example of the United States and classify the antifa movement as a terrorist organization.
"Because Antifa is a terrorist organization. Antifa spreads an extreme ideology, and within the framework of this extreme ideology, they practically encourage violent action against anyone who disagrees with their violent ideology," he said.
"So what did they do in Hungary? What did they do in Budapest? What did this woman named Ilaria Salis do in Budapest? As members of a gang, they publicly hunted down people in the streets in Hungary and beat them to death just because they thought they had followed some kind of different ideology," he added.
"This is terrorism, there is no other way to describe it, this is public manhunt in the street. Now the European Parliament has sided with an antifa terrorist who participated in public street manhunt and is defending her," he added.
Szijjarto said that the EP had once again revealed itself by "defending and hiding Peter Magyar and Ilaria Sari from the Hungarian authorities."
"I believe that those who have committed crimes should not hide behind their immunity, yet this is what is happening in both cases, and the European Parliament is clearly helping these people to evade responsibility," he said.
"I continue to take the position that Antifa should indeed be declared a terrorist organization, because that is what it is, and in this case, the European Parliament is defending a terrorist organization, which is simply unacceptable and outrageous," he concluded.
FM adds Hungary refuses to change its migration policy 'no matter the pressure'
The Hungarian government refuses to change its migration policy under any pressure, Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in New York on Tuesday, adding that the measures were effective "and keeping illegal immigrants out is the right course of action".
The ministry said in a statement that Szijjarto participated in a meeting on the fight against terrorism, where he emphasized that the international situation was the most dangerous since the end of the Cold War, as there were numerous wars taking place around the world and the threat of terrorism was very high.
He added that there had been 3,495 terrorist attacks worldwide last year and, and referring to Hungary's special geographical location, he said that there was a link between illegal migration and the growing threat of terrorism, with the two forming a vicious circle.
He said Hungary lied on the busiest land migration route to the European Union, and that ten years ago, hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants had flooded into the country and refused to cooperate with the authorities.
"We made a very good decision when we did not allow illegal migrants to enter Hungarian territory, thereby reducing the growth of the terrorist threat. We built a fence on our borders and have spent nearly two billion euros on border protection costs so far," he said.
"And this is something that I believe we should not have to experience in 21st-century Europe. Based on Hungary's experience, I can say that if we cannot stop the waves of illegal migration, the threat of terrorism will continue to grow. Pro-migration policies go hand in hand with an increased threat of terrorism," he said.
"We will resolutely defend our borders. We will not allow illegal migrants to enter the country (...) We believe that this is the best way to protect ourselves and the entire European continent," he said, and expressed his support for the UN's counterterrorism efforts.
