Retail Sales Rise Slightly in Hungary
Retail sales in Hungary rose 1.9pc year-on-year in August, data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Monday show.

Retail sales rose 2.4pc when adjusted for calendar year effects.

Adjusted food sales climbed 2.3pc, non-food sales rose 4.9pc and vehicle fuel sales increased 2.2pc.

Online and mail-order sales volume, which accounted for 7.2pc of retail turnover, rose 6.6pc.

In a month-on-month comparison, retail sales edged up 0.8pc, adjusted for seasonal and calendar year effects.

In absolute terms, retail sales came to HUF 1,735bn in August. Food sales accounted for 51pc of the total, non-food sales for 34pc and sales at petrol stations for 15pc.

For the period January-August, retail sales rose an adjusted 2.8pc and an unadjusted 2.4pc from the same period a year earlier. Food sales increased an adjusted 2.7pc, non-food sales 4.3pc and motor fuel sales 0.7pc.

Commenting on the fresh data, the National Economy Ministry said the government was committed to further strengthening the financial security of families, citing measures such as tax cuts for families raising children, food vouchers to pensioners and the extension of the cap on markups on staple products, leaving households with more to spend.
