Hey, June, Place of Arts Budapest, 7 - 13 June
Just like Müpa Budapest as a whole, our homemade Hey, June! mini-festival will also celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2025. Between the days of 7 and 13 June, we will once kick off the summer with some truly special acts, ranging from new-wave hip-hop to folk-infused pop to dynamic and improvisational psychedelic art rock.

As in previous years, the performers are preparing unique and unrepeatable performances aimed at everyone with a thirst for something remarkable.

Opening the festival will be one of the great pioneers of Hungarian hip-hop, Co Lee, known for his punk frankness and visceral naturalness. Also trained as an acrobat, the rapper will construct the show around the word ‘walk’ as per his new album La Promenade, jointly released in September together with Blaize, using movement as a visual and organising dramaturgical principle.

The 15-year-old band Konyha, named after their favourite venue (Konyha means kitchen) at house parties, promises a break from the constant grind: in their intimate, storytelling concert, they return to the very same kitchen table where it all began. Intimacy will not be lacking in Boggie and Petruska’s joint production HUNCLORIQUE, either.

The two artists present the uniqueness of folk music motifs and melodies by selecting from among the most beautiful Hungarian love ballads and laments for the dead.

The pivotal Hungarian underground band ék, featuring Olivér Lee, is bringing several of their long-cherished dreams to the stage: this time they will be supplemented with a wind section as they implement many of their exciting visual ideas in the Festival Theatre.

Bursting with eloquent lyrics and energetic songs, Mehringer is not afraid of Friday the 13th: in fact, even though Marci Mehringer’s up-and-coming team believed it to be unlucky, they are still celebrating their third birthday with a date that always brings good luck to them with a concert of songs both old and new.

The Hey, June! programme series is as old as Müpa Budapest itself. It was first held in 2005, and has taken place at the end of the academic year ever since, ushering in the holidays and the festival season as an in-house mini-festival that opens the door to every aspect of this new beginning, welcoming the summer and giving us good reason to celebrate.
