Sakura Festival ELTE Botanical Garden Budapest, 28 - 29 March & 11 - 12 April
The annual Sakura Festival has long been a cherished tradition at the ELTE Botanical Garden, celebrating the blossoming of the Japanese cherry trees and the traditional Japanese holiday of Ohanami. When the cherry trees burst into bloom, visitors are invited to relax on blankets, enjoy a picnic, and admire the magical sight of the Sakura blossoms — just as people do in Japan.

A Celebration of Japanese Culture

Throughout the festival weekends, Japanese culture will be showcased in many unique and captivating forms.

In 2026, the programme will include:

Traditional Arts: Ikebana exhibitions, workshops, and a Haiku competition.
Music & Language: Japanese language lessons, traditional music performances, and live concerts.
Skill & Strategy: Martial arts and weapons demonstrations, plus Go (board game) instruction.

Weekend 2: April 11–12, 2026
