End to 'Invasion' of Foreign Guest Workers in Hungary Demanded by Our Homeland Party
The Our Homeland Movement has called for a "radical turnaround" in Hungary's labour landscape. Speaking ahead of Our Homeland's Labour Day event in the capital on Thursday, Janos Lantos, the head of the party's labour policy team, set out a vision for an "organic society where employers and employees have equal weight and act as natural allies".

He emphasised the urgent need to raise wages, saying Hungary lagged at the bottom of the European Union on pay. Lantos also insisted employers must treat workers with dignity, supporting their health and offering early retirement to those who have spent decades working night shifts.

He said Hungary lacked a strong trade union movement, adding that his party supported the creation of "independent, nationally minded worker representations".

Lantos demanded an end to the "invasion of guest workers", which he said undermined Hungarian workers' opportunities and bargaining power. He also called for upskilling the domestic workforce to meet the challenges of artificial intelligence.

He underlined the need to support workers over 50 and to prepare younger generations for the labour market by teaching them their rights and responsibilities.

Listings for local positions edge lower - Profession.hu

The number of listings for positions in Hungary showed a "moderate decline" in the first quarter from the same period a year earlier, Profession.hu, Hungary's largest job listings site, said on Thursday.

The number of listings for jobs in the capital fell 10pc, but the number climbed 34pc in Bekes County (SE Hungary), 35pc in Tolna County (SW Hungary) and 82pc in Nograd County (N Hungary).

Including listings for positions abroad, the overall number of job posts rose, Profession.hu said.
