No More Foreign Guest Workers Allowed in Hungary from Certain Countries
In a definitive shift in labor policy, the Hungarian government has announced that foreign guest workers from the Philippines, Georgia, and Armenia will no longer be permitted to enter the country under accelerated, fast-track procedures.

Government spokeswoman Vanda Szondi confirmed the restriction during a regular press briefing, noting that the amendment to the current government decree will halt the streamlined entry pipeline previously utilized by employment and staffing agencies.

Under the new directives, the administration is focusing on a broader tightening of regulations surrounding the employment of foreign personnel.

According to Szondi, the regulatory landscape for third-country nationals has become overly fragmented, with twenty-four distinct legal categories under which foreign citizens can currently secure employment in Hungary.

Furthermore, official administrative tracking has faced challenges, with the spokeswoman pointing out that concrete, comprehensive figures on the exact number of foreign laborers currently active within the country are presently unavailable.

For international workers already residing and working in Hungary under the impacted fast-track framework, the government clarified that transitional options remain open, stating that individuals currently in the country may apply to have their existing work permits extended through standard administrative channels.

While the policy marks an immediate change for future applicants from the three specified nations, the administration emphasized that developing a comprehensive framework for foreign labor remains a long-term project.

Acknowledging the reliance of certain economic sectors on international staff, Szondi noted that the labor situation is highly complex and a balanced, systemic solution will take time to fully resolve.
