A procedure was launched in February, after BYD Auto Hungary failed to test or report soil removed from the site of the investment.

Samples of the soil tested in March showed levels of alkylbenzene of 0.7-4.16mg/kg, exceeding the 0.5mg/kg safety threshold.

Crops grown in the soil were destroyed before the harvest and a report filed against unknown perpetrators on suspicion of environmental damage.

Samples of the soil tested in May showed alkylbenzene levels had fallen back under the safety threshold due to volatilization.

BYD Auto Hungary was fined HUF 10 million for violating environmental regulations.
