Budapest Taxi Fares to Rise from Saturday
- 30 Jul 2026 10:33 AM
The base fare will rise from HUF 1,100 to HUF 1,300, the charge per kilometer from HUF 440 to HUF 521 and the charge per minute from HUF 110 to HUF 130.
An HUF 800 airport surcharge will also be introduced, raising the base fare for trips to and from Liszt Ferenc International to HUF 2,100.
The fare increase follows a review by Budapest's municipal authorities, who said higher operating costs have made an adjustment necessary.
The previous official tariff had been in place since January 2023, while drivers have faced rising expenses for fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance and wages.
The new rates apply to all officially licensed Budapest taxis using the city's regulated fare system, ensuring passengers continue to pay the same fixed tariffs regardless of which licensed taxi company they choose.
Airport transfers will also remain subject to regulated pricing, with the newly introduced airport surcharge applying to journeys to and from Liszt Ferenc International Airport.
Despite the increase, Budapest's regulated taxi system continues to offer transparent pricing compared with many European capitals, where fares can vary significantly between operators or fluctuate according to demand.
The city's fixed tariff system was introduced to provide greater consumer protection and maintain consistent service standards.
