Xpat Interview: Alexander Griesser
Alexander Griesser, 34 years old, is an Austrian citizen and has been the director of Sales and Marketing at Le Meridien Budapest since April 2008.

He was previously a DOSM in Bratislava, Slovakia, and Vienna, Austria (for another hotel company) and has worked in various sales positions in Vienna and Dallas, USA. He has been in the hotel business for a total of 12 years, starting as a night audit and receptionist at the Grand Hotel Wien, he gained his first sales position in 1999.

Outside work his interests include paragliding, skiing, and his son.

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you he
re?
I arrived end of April 2008 after I was offered this opportunity. As I had known Budapest already from several private visits before and always left the city with positive impressions I did not hesitate to take up this challenge.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
Yes, in Dallas and Bratislava

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
The good knowledge and background in hospitality industry.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
Take a Hop on - Hop off bus and get a first good overview of the city, take a night boat trip, the lit up buildings are just gorgeous and later dive into the night life around Liszt Ferenc Square or one of the open air places

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
Somloi Galuska

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Still Water, summers are very hot here..

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Drágám

8. What do you miss the most from home?
My son Benjamin

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
In my next life an ambulance helicopter pilot

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Politician

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Croatia and Austria

12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
Barcelona, I am very curious to see our new W Hotel there

13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
A long while ago, my favourite band was DIE ÄRZTE, a German punk band, Pulp Fiction was and still is my favourite movie and I loved to ride a BMX bike (made over 200 meters on the back wheel?)

14. What can't you resist?
Usually a good dessert

Red

16. Book or movie?
Movie

17. Morning person or night person?
Night

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
I cant understand why we are still unable to feed people in the third world
