Poems smuggled of prison, samizdat books the size of a hummingbird, clandestinely distributed video tapes with „western” films, university samizdats, punk magazines, communes, apartment theaters and secret police files – the exhibition presents documents and artefacts from the cultural opposition under communism.

Presenting the Holocaust “from an internal point of view” in order to gain an understanding of what it was like to be a victim of the tragedy is the essence of the Academy Award winning film Son of Saul, László Nemes Jeles, the film’s director, said. “It is amazing to see how happy people are about the Oscar,” the director told a press conference in Budapest.

Europe’s Roma communities face deepening challenges of discrimination, violence and poverty. The US minority rights movement, which has had some notable successes over the past 50 years, also faces continuing problems, including police violence. We believe that a sharing of their struggles would be worthwhile as everyone searches for effective remedies.

The Semmelweis Medical History Museum, together with the National Medical History Library (1950) and the Archives (1974) make up the most important research basis of the Hungarian physician history. The Museum was opened in 1965. In the last 4 decades the collections of the museum got highly extended, and thus by now they form one of the richest physician and chemist historical collection.
