In the late 1930s, Europe teetered on the verge of what would soon become The 1939-1945 War, or to Americans, the Second World War. Out in Hungary, one newspaper editor was frustrated. He wasted far too much time filling up fountain pens and cleaning up smudged pages. He was annoyed that the sharp tip of his fountain pen often tore the paper.

From the bike (or car) road to the right of Auchan (Jegtoro u.) just before the intersection with the Infopark, one can see buildings that, from afar, seem to be in the same style of those I discovered a few weeks ago further down the road as part of the old Obuda Gasworks Residential Estate. On my way back from my bike ride yesterday I explored the area, and was correct.

It is with great sadness that we at Pilvax mourn the passing of our dear friend János Tarnóc. János – known to many as Jon – passed away earlier this year after suffering the complications of a debilitating internal illness. János was a poet in both English and Hungarian, a translator, a lyricist, and great supporter of literature and writers. János had a deep interest in forming connections ...

Having a free Sunday morning on my hands, a friend and I visited the Szimplakert Haztaji Market. The great ambiance was still there. Almost every seller had samples out to try, whether it be szorp, jam, baked goods, spreads or cheese. All the sellers were friendly, chatty, and proud of their products.
