Press Release: Hungary’s new border regime denies access to asylum and exposes vulnerable people to violence and prosecution, Human Rights Watch said today. Thousands of asylum seekers and migrants have been trapped in Serbia as a result of the de facto closure of the Hungarian border since September 15, 2015, when a new border regime came into force and a border fence was completed.

At his press conference on Thursday (“Government Info 22 – Government actions explained”) the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office János Lázár said that the Government utterly rejects any proposal for the setting up of a refugee camp in Hungary under the supervision and control of the European Commission. The Government is unable to accept edicts, he said.
