Experienced Expat Management

Jonas Sjostedt is the General Manager of the Centara Nova Hotel, as well as of Centara Pattaya Hotel, and it's good to know he keeps his experienced European hands on the steering wheel here.

Jonas is a friendly Swedish national who has worked with leading Scandinavian tour operators, and has experience in many countries including Greece, Spain, Brazil, Cyprus, as well as most recently in Thailand.

Mr. Sjostedt has been working for Centara Hotels and Resorts for 8 years. He started his career as Resident Manager at Centara Kata Resort and then transferred to Centara Karon Resort in the same position. He was then promoted to General Manager for Centra Ashlee Hotel Patong, Phuket. Prior to arriving at his current position he was General Manager of Centara Koh Chang Tropicana Resort.

Pattaya, once known mostly for its party scene, has undergone an impressive transformation over the last five years. Here's a brief yet insightful Q@A with Jonas about how the city has evolved into a vibrant, family-friendly, and event-packed destination.

XpatLoop: You’ve been in Pattaya for 10 years now, what are the biggest changes you’ve noticed in the last five years?

Jonas: Oh, the changes have been huge! One of the most noticeable improvements is the infrastructure. The roads leading into Pattaya and within the city have been upgraded. We’ve got new tunnels, bridges, and even a direct exit coming from Bangkok to Jomtien Beach now, which makes getting around so much easier. Especially on weekends, when visitors from Bangkok flood in, traffic flows a lot better. It’s such a relief compared to what it was a few years ago!

XpatLoop: That sounds like a major improvement! How about the beachfront? We’ve heard there have been some upgrades there too.

Jonas: Absolutely. Pattaya invested 166 million baht to refurbish a 2.7-kilometer-long beachfront footpath that stretches from North to South Pattaya. It’s completely transformed the area.

The beach road looks so much nicer now, and the whole area is just more inviting. Plus, they’ve enforced stricter policies on the speed boats that used to operate along the beach. It’s really made the entire beachfront more peaceful and pleasant for visitors and locals alike.

XpatLoop: It sounds like Pattaya is not only becoming more convenient but more enjoyable too. Has there been a focus on family attractions as well?

Jonas: Oh yes! Pattaya is really pushing itself as a top family destination now. We’ve welcomed some amazing new family attractions. Columbia Pictures Aquaverse is a huge hit, and then there’s Ramayana Water Park, which is one of the largest in Southeast Asia.

For a more relaxed experience, families love visiting Nong Nooch Tropical Garden – specially with the new Dinosaur area, and the interactive Art in Paradise museum is always a favorite.

We’ve also got the Pattaya Dolphinarium, Floating Market, and the cool Frost Magical Ice of Siam, where you can experience sub-zero temperatures. It’s incredible how much there is to do for all ages.

Plus we have south-east Asia biggest water park in Rayamana and now also the re-branded Columbia Picture Aquaverse - Movie-themed amusement park featuring waterslides, pools & a variety of dining options.

Hotel Dining & Thai Cooking Activity

A great day time activity organised by the hotel is a Thai Cooking Class, led by a jolly experienced head chef and his friendly team of helpers, who ensure participants in the course enjoy learning the finer secrets of Thai cuisine while having fun cooking local ingredients fresh from the market.

Also on the topic of F&B, guests are well taken care of here as the property offers fine food at its main 'Glow' all-day dining restaurant, serving Thai and international cuisines indoors and on the terrace.

The 'Lido Pool Bar' serves refreshing cocktails, thirst quenching drinks and light snacks to those relaxing poolside, plus In-Room dining is also available.
