Hungary’s summer festivals are receiving a total of nearly 500 million forints (EUR 1.6m) state support this year, an official of the Ministry of Human Resources said. State secretary Bence Rétvári told a press conference that the Sziget Festival in Budapest, the Volt Festival in Sopron in western Hungary and the Balaton Sound festival are getting a combined 150 million forints (EUR 476,000).

The European Commission (EC) has given the green light to a cross-border cooperation programme between Hungary and Austria worth 30 billion forints (EUR 95m). The commission Interreg funds will cover 78 million euros. Thanks to government mandated cuts to utility fees, Hungary has the second lowest price of natural gas in the European Union based on purchasing power parity (PPP), Fidesz MP Szilárd Németh told a press conference in Budapest. Whereas in 2010 Hungary was the country where consumers had to pay the most for gas in the EU, now only Romania has lower gas prices, based on PPP exchange rates.
