Suspected Migrant Killed In Road Accident Near Hungarian Serbian Border

It was reported that a suspected illegal migrant was killed on Wednesday morning in a road accident on the M5 motorway near Hungary’s border with Serbia. A police spokesman for Csongrád County said that a petrol station near the border station at Röszke was the site of an inspection by officers at around 6am.

Police stopped a total of 2,858 illegal border crossers in Hungary this past weekend, the national police (ORFK) told MTI. The ORFK reported on its website that it had launched proceedings against two individuals for human smuggling and ten for forgery of official documents. The majority of illegal border crossers were caught in the southern portion of Csongrád County, local police said.

In reaction to the heat wave, the national meteorological service has extended its heat warning issued earlier to several counties and raised its level to second degree. Maximum temperatures on Friday afternoon were expected to be at 30 to 33 °C , which will fall no lower than 19-24 °C late in the evening.

Thirteen people were injured when a commuter train collided with a truck carrying corn at a level crossing in Csongrád county shortly after noon Monday. The truck driver was flown by rescue helicopter to a Szeged hospital in critical condition.
A passenger on the train suffered severe injuries and 12 others sustained light injuries, as the train derailed but did not overturn.
