Brussels has “attacked” Hungary’s plan to cut VAT on internet subscriptions, Bence Tuzson, cabinet state secretary for government communications, told a news conference. He noted that the European Commission had not approved the government’s plan to reduce VAT next year on accessing the internet from 27% to 18%. The government will continue to fight for this cause, he added.

IBM will enlarge its Székesfehérvár IT service headquarters with an investment worth HUF 3.2 billion, and based on an individual decision, the Government will provide HUF 1.1 billion for the project. As a result, 410 new jobs will be created, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced on Wednesday in Székesfehérvár.

According to estimates, the government’s plans mean that every downloaded gigabyte would cost Hungarian internet service providers HUF 150, and many believe ISPs would simply pass the tax on to users.
