Under next yearʼs budget plan, which is due for a vote in Parliament in the next few weeks, foreign digital giants would be forced to pay taxes on advertisements that are posted on their sites and are seen in Hungary, according analysis published today by tax consultants RSM Hungary. This would mean the introduction of a so-called “Google-tax” by 2017.

The government plans to build a test track for, primarily, driverless cars, in Zalaegerszeg, in western Hungary, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced on Thursday. Speaking at the “Cars of the Future” conference at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Orbán called the test track a major investment, “the like of which cannot be found” within 500 kilometres of Hungary.

App-based taxi company Uber has taken out full-page advertisements in Népszabadság and Világgazdaság today, arguing against the government’s ban on its service. The ad states that Uber has 150,000 users in Hungary and provides work to 1,200 honest taxpaying people, arguing that it is wrong to ban something that is loved by users.

When a Hungarian offers to meet you at FÉL ÖT (half five) what time will you ink in your calendar: 4:30, 5:30, 16:30 or 17:30? Well, only the Germans and the Dutch would get it right, i.e. 4:30 while the British would read it as half past five, which would be FÉL HAT in Hungarian usage.
