Diplomatic Spouses of Budapest (DSB) will organise the 10th Diplomatic Fair, again this year under the patronage of Mrs. Anita Herczegh the spouse of the President of Hungary.

Born 13 May 1942, he was a successful fencer in his youth, going on to win two Olympic gold medals. Later he became a politician, and served as President of Hungary from 2010 until his resignation in 2012. Today he is one of the 100 or so active members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Hungary’s government agreed to limit the number of people who could receive diplomatic immunity in Hungary as staff or guests of the International Investment Bank (IIB). Only one or two dozen of them would receive immunity, Direkt36 has learned. The bank relocated its headquarters from Moscow to Budapest this summer.

I first visited Budapest in 1982. I came with some friends on the overnight train from Warsaw, where I was working at the British Embassy. Howling dogs and misty border crossings - it was like living in a John le Carré novel. Budapest was shrouded in freezing fog all weekend but I still fell in love with the city.
